When a standard cabin is not allowed on site.
On many sites in Qatar a standard porta cabin is refused at the gate. Oil and gas plants, substations, refineries, solar farms and work near fuel or gas lines usually ask for fire rated cabins, often with a 1-hour (60 minute) fire rating written into the project specification.
A fire rated porta cabin looks like a standard cabin from the outside. The difference is in the walls, the roof, the doors and the details: panels with a non-combustible mineral wool core instead of a foam core, fire rated doors, and sealed openings around cables and pipes, so a fire outside or inside is held back for the rated time.

What is a fire rated porta cabin?
A porta cabin whose walls, roof and doors are built to hold back fire for a set time, usually 60 minutes. It uses panels with a non-combustible mineral wool core and fire rated doors, where a standard cabin uses a foam core panel.
What is the difference between a fire rated and a non fire rated porta cabin?
A non fire rated cabin has foam core panels (EPS or PU) that burn. A fire rated cabin uses non-combustible panels and fire rated doors and is tested for a fire rating. Many oil, gas and power sites in Qatar accept only fire rated cabins.
What fire rating do you supply?
Our fire rated cabins are built for a 1-hour (60 minute) rating. If your specification asks for another rating, send it to us and we tell you what we can supply.
Which documents do you give for the submittal?
The fire test certificate of the panels, usually to BS 476 or EN 1364, the cabin drawing and the material details. Send us the specification of your project so we check it before we quote.
What is the price of a fire rated porta cabin?
It costs more than a standard cabin of the same size, because of the panels and doors. The price depends on the size, the layout, the rating and the fit-out. Send the size, the quantity and the site, and we quote it with delivery.
Can a fire rated cabin have AC, toilets and furniture?
Yes, on request. AC is an additional charge, and so are toilets and furniture: each one is a separate line in the quote.
Can I rent a fire rated porta cabin?
Most are bought, because they are built for the project. Rental depends on the cabins free on your date. If we cannot rent them, we offer to sell them to you.
